behind the scenes: THE CRANE

I am back to let you in on another one of my NYFW looks as a continuation of my blog series: behind the scenes of Sustainable Fashion is a Cabaret! Next is the look worn by the incredible burlesque performer The Maine Attraction called The Crane!

At my NYFW show, world-renowned burlesque performer The Maine Attraction dazzled the audience with a mesmerizing strip tease to live vocals by Emma Craig in a mashup of raindrops keep falling (on my head) and I can't stand the rain that embodied humor, sensuality, and sustainability.

She began in a deep blue trench coat adorned with a detailed crane applique, its wingspan stretching across her back and arms like it was ready to take flight. On theme with the song and the trench coat, The Maine Attraction also carried an umbrella embellished in textile floral brooches, which she opened and dramatically turned upside down, releasing blue "petals" that cascaded like rain.

As she stripped down to a light blue silk pajama set, then a body suit embellished with blue sparkling swirls and two feathers covering her bust and hips, the anticipation built. When she ripped the feathers away, the intricate textile floral brooches revealed beneath were the true finale, showcasing how beauty, like fashion, can evolve and surprise in the most sustainable and creative ways.

A few of the floral brooches that decorated Maine's umbrella are still available: pink and blue floral brooch, orange, pink, and blue florals brooch + leaf, and pink, yellow, and blue daisies brooch + leaf.

In my newest collection inspired by the cabaret, the companion piece to The Crane look is a denim jacket featuring four leather crane appliques! The Crane jacket is also available on the Zero Waste Daniel website in sizes XS to 3XL. Each one is handmade by me in my Brooklyn studio.
